Aššur-nirari IV.
Aššur-nirari IV. ( Ashur-nirari, Assur-nirari ) was king of Assyria and ruled in 1018 BC. BC – 1013 BC His name means Assur is my salvation / my help .
He succeeded his father Shalmaneser II , after his death his uncle Aššur-rabi II became king. Because of the poor sources in this "dark age" of Assyria, little more is known of Aššur-nirari than the name and the length of his reign. During his reign, the līmu system of chronology, according to which a year is given as the Xth year of a ruler's reign, was suspended: the first year of his reign was called “Līmu Aššur-niraris”, the following years became “Xth year after the Līmu Aššur-niraris “. Aššur-nirari IV may have been overthrown by his successor.
