The A831 road is an A-road in the Scottish Council Area Highland . It begins on the west bank of Loch Ness in Drumnadrochit at the junction of the A82 and leads from there via Cannich to the confluence with the A862 south of Beauly .
course
The starting point of the A831 is in the center of Drumnadrochit on the west bank of Loch Ness, where it branches off from the A82. It leads west along the River Enrick in the predominantly wooded Glen Urquhart upwards and passes various smaller scattered settlements and towns. At Balnain, the A831 runs on the north bank of Loch Meiklie . To the west of the junction to the Corrimony Cairn , a megalithic complex near the small settlement of Corrimony, the road overcomes the watershed between the Great Glen and Strathglass, which is adjacent to the north . From there it continues downhill towards the west to the town of Cannich . In Cannich, two narrow single track roads branch off at an intersection towards Glen Affric and Loch Mullardoch .
From Cannich, the A831, which has previously run in an east-west direction, turns sharply north-east into the Strathglass . This valley is the continuation of Glen Affric in the direction of Beauly Firth and is traversed by the River Glass . The A831 follows the river on its orographic left side of the valley . The Strathglass is also characterized by small scattered settlements. At Struy the River Farrar flows into the River Glass, from here the river is called the River Beauly . South of Beauly, the A831 joins the A862 directly west of the Lovat Bridge , via which Inverness to the east and Beauly and Dingwall to the north can be reached.
