Course of the road

The A991 road is an A-road in Scotland . It runs with a total length of 2.9 km exclusively in the inner city area of Dundee and forms the inner city ring there. The street is consistently called Marketgait .

course

The A991 picks up traffic entering Dundee from the south over the Firth of Tay Bridge ( A92 ). In an easterly direction it runs along with the A92 for around 200 m until it continues eastwards following the coast of Angus and Aberdeenshire . The A991 bends north at this point and takes on the A929 coming from the north from the A90 (outer ring) . The A923 ( Dunkeld- Dundee) joins a roundabout , which leads from the A90 through the northwestern parts of the city to the center of Dundee. In the southwest, the A991 connects the urban train station to the road network and forms the end point of the A85 coming from Oban , before it reaches the junction with the A90 again.

Surroundings

On its course, the A991 passes various listed buildings and separates the campus of the University of Dundee from that of the University of Abertay . Opposite the Firth of Tay Bridge is the classicist Exchange Coffee House . A little further to the east is the building of the former port administration . With St Andrew's Church opposite the confluence of King's Street and South Church at the confluence with Nethergate , two church buildings of the highest monument category A are located on the A991. The former Tay Works textile mill was one of the largest of its kind in Great Britain and stretches around 200 m along the road. Opposite is the former courthouse .
