Limón FC is a football club from Puerto Limón , Limón Province , Costa Rica , which plays in the highest Costa Rican league, the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División .

history

On July 10, 1961, the Asociación Deportiva Limonense (ASODELI) was founded.

In 1963, Limón finished second in the Liga de Ascenso-Segunda División and thus rose to the Primera División de Costa Rica .

AD Limonense played between 1964 and 1969, 1972 to 1995 and 1998 to 2002 in the highest Costa Rican league.

By the early 1990s, AD Limonense changed its name a few times, the club was called Limón Northern, Limón-Japdeva and Limón Sprite, among others.

In 2009 the Costa Rican-American businessman Carlos Pascal bought the ailing club for around $ 100,000 and renamed it Limón FC. Already in the first season the promotion to the first division succeeded, where the club has played since then.

Stadion

Limón FC usually plays its home games at the 3,000-seat Estadio Juan Gobán , which is located in the center of Puerto Limón . When a large crowd is expected, Limón FC plays its home games at the Estadio Nuevo de Limón , which is located outside the city and has a capacity of around 5000 spectators.
