The ALEA Ensemble is an ensemble for contemporary music from Graz .

history

The ensemble was founded in 1988 by the composer and conductor Gerhard Present and his wife Sigrid Present (violin) in Graz for a concert in the Forum Stadtpark . The name originally associated the compositional style aleatoric , but in later years it also stands for the variable line-up that was always adapted to the respective needs.

The aim of the ensemble is to bring contemporary music closer to the audience without stylistic reservations - often in relevant combinations with traditional repertoire . The musicians have produced several CDs that have also received international recognition, including a. in the English string magazine "The Strad".

Concert activity

The ensemble has been giving concerts regularly since 1990 - often as the ALEA Quartet ( string quartet ) - and has been a. a. at the festivals "Österreich heute" and "Hörzüge" in the Vienna Konzerthaus , "Nuovi Spazi Musicali" in Rome , in the "Musikforum München", at the " Witold Lutosławski Festival" in Lublin , in the " Austrian Cultural Forum " in New York City as well as in London , Washington, DC and Genoa , at the festival " Carinthischer Sommer ", in the " Styriarte " in Graz , in the art association " Alte Schmiede " Vienna, in the " Forum Stadtpark " and in the concert series "Steirischer Tonkünstlerbund" and "die Andere saite " can be heard in Graz and on ORF .

Cooperation exists u. a. with the pianists Rita Melem, Edda König, Georg Pammer and Eike Straub, with Berndt Luef (vibraphone, jazz composer), Alexander Puhrer (baritone), Jörg-Martin Willnauer (actor), Bertram Egger (clarinet), Barbara Payer (flute), Christine Kügerl (harp), Krisztina Faludy (bassoon) and with the composers Iván Eröd (2nd and 3rd string quartet), Herbert Blendinger (2nd, 3rd and 4th quartet) and Franz Zebinger.

Occupations

From 1993 to 2009 the ensemble gave concerts preferably as a string quartet (also with an additional piano), since 2010 mainly as a string trio (2 violins and violoncello), also with possible piano. The current line-up consists of Sigrid Present and Igmar Jenner (violin) with Tobias Stosiek (violoncello), optionally with Rita Melem (piano).
