Herbert Blendinger

Herbert Blendinger (born January 3, 1936 in Ansbach ; † May 15, 2020 ) was an Austrian composer and violist of German origin.

Life

Blendinger studied viola and composition at Willy Horwath and Max Gebhard at the Conservatory in Nuremberg , then from 1961 to 1963 at the Music Academy in Munich with Georg Schmid and Franz Xaver Lehner, in addition music education . As a composer he received suggestions from Paul Hindemith .

His artistic career began in 1961 as principal violist with the Rheinisches Kammerorchester Cologne. This was followed by engagements with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich, as well as a solo and chamber music concert activity a. a. with the Bamberg Piano Quartet and the Sinnhoffer Quartet. Blendinger taught at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the Würzburg University of Music . From 1981 until his retirement in 1988 he was professor for viola at the Musikhochschule Graz . Then he concentrated on the composition.

Performances

His works were mainly performed in German-speaking countries. a. World premieres by the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich under Wolfgang Sawallisch ( concert for string quartet and orchestra 1976, Media in vita 1980 and Divertimento concertante 1985), in the cathedral and in the Heilandskirche in Graz (chorale fantasy op. 49 (1989), cantata Mich calls sometimes one Silent op. 58 (1992), cantata The prayers alone can still succeed (1995)). The ALEA Ensemble also performed its quartets No. 2, 3 and 4 internationally (Munich, Rome, New York).
