The Altran Group is a global consulting company and engineering service provider that specializes primarily in cutting-edge technology , IT and innovation consulting .

Altran supports its customers in the conception and development of new products and services and advises companies in the automotive, aerospace, energy, finance, healthcare, rail and transport and telecommunications sectors. Altran covers all stages of project development, from strategic planning to series production. Altran's shares were listed on the Euronext stock exchange in Paris and included in the Next 150 index and the CAC Mid 60 index.

Corporate development

The formerly listed stock corporation was founded in Paris in 1982. Today the Altran Group is a global network with around 100 subsidiaries in 20 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America. A total of around 26,000 employees work for Altran, including over 18,000 consultants. In 2015, sales worldwide totaled 1.945 billion euros.

Altran has been present on the German market since 1996. Altran Deutschland SAS & Co. KG, based in Munich, was founded in 2009. It emerged from the former German subsidiaries Altran CIS, ASKON ConsultingGroup, BERATA and EUROSPACE. These companies have been operating under the Altran brand since 2009.

The company is represented at 30 locations in Germany. The company hires around 400 engineers each year. IndustrieHansa has been part of the Altran Group since January 1, 2013, with 1900 employees and annual sales of 163 million euros (2012). With the acquisition, Altran has moved up into the top 5 engineering service providers with the highest turnover in Germany.

After a friendly takeover by Capgemini , Altran was taken off the Paris Stock Exchange on April 15, 2020 and has been operating as a 100% subsidiary ever since.

Projects

Automotive industry

One focus of activity in Germany is the automotive industry , where the company is a cooperation partner of numerous automobile manufacturers and is currently heavily involved in the development of hydrogen and hybrid vehicles . Altran is also involved in technology development: at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in 2012, Altran presented the Quimera AEGT, which it claims to be the fastest electric car in the world. In 2012, Altran was the official partner of the PEUGEOT RCZ NOKIA team for participation in the fortieth 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and the VLN endurance championship.

Aerospace

In the aerospace sector, Altran is a partner of various companies with around 5,000 employees worldwide. Altran is certified as an E2S Group A supplier by Airbus and was involved in the development and production of the A380 , for example . The area of ​​responsibility included coordinating all electronic work on site in Toulouse, working on the cockpit design, developing a water and sewage system and an interphone panel, a communication link between the cargo hold and cockpit of the A380 freighter. In addition, Altran is the official preferred supplier at OHB and thus indirectly involved in the construction of the European Galileo project. From 2011 to 2015, Altran was also significantly involved in the EU research project SARISTU (Smart Intelligent Aircraft Structures), which was funded by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union.

Solar Impulse

Altran was involved in the implementation of the Solar Impulse project by Bertrand Piccard, in the course of which an aircraft was developed that could circumnavigate the world using only solar energy. Altran supported the project in the areas of project and risk management, among other things, and made its expert knowledge in the fields of aviation, renewable energies and sustainable development available. Altran had already participated in the implementation of a flight simulator for the development of flight strategies (adaptation of the flight route to the weather conditions) and in the optimization of the aircraft design and the subordinate systems.

Motorsport

Altran has also been involved in motorsport for some time. The company has been the “Official Partner of BMW Motorrad Motorsport” since October 2009. As part of this sponsorship, Altran is active in the engine control unit at BMW Motorrad Motorsport and supports the further development of the control unit.

In addition, Altran advises and develops in questions of energy technology , in the telecommunications industry as well as in the field of rail transport and shipping .

Customers include a. Airbus, Audi , BMW , Carl Zeiss , Continental , Daimler , Deutsche Bank , Deutsche Telekom , Porsche , Postbank , Vodafone , Volkswagen and Siemens .

Altran Foundation for Innovation

The non-profit Altran Foundation for Innovation was founded in Paris in 1996 and annually awards an international prize on a current topic. With this, the company would like to meet its social responsibility to promote technological developments in the service of the general public. The further development of the winning project will be technically and strategically supported by consultants from the management consultancy over a period of one year, the equivalent of this consulting is up to 1 million euros. The winner will also receive a bonus of 16,000 euros.

In 2006 the motto of the competition was "Technological Innovation and Energy". The winner was the “Maxxun” project from the Netherlands with a solar system based on Luminescent Solar Concentrating (LSC) technology. The theme of the 2007 award was: “Construction site people. Medical progress through technological innovation ”. The winner was the French eye specialist Sahel with its project to manufacture an artificial retina that can restore sight to blind patients under certain conditions.

The theme for the 2008 award was CO2 reduction: the technological challenge of our time and aimed at applicants with projects in a wide variety of technology areas (energy, transport, building, manufacturing industry, aeronautics ...). It was won by the Spanish architectural scientist Francisco Gallo Mejía with his project of the " habitable carbon dioxide sink ".

In 2012 the competition was awarded nationally and carried out in Germany in cooperation with Wirtschaftswoche magazine. For the first time, companies were also admitted to the ideas competition, which in 2012 had the theme "Sustainovation - the key to ever better eco-efficiency". Volkswagen AG won first prize for its “Think Blue. Factory ". One of the core ideas of the strategy envisages that by 2018 all global production locations of the Volkswagen Group will reduce the consumption of energy, water, waste, as well as the emissions of CO 2 and solvents in production by 25% per vehicle and component part.

In 2013 the British project “OrganOx metra” and the Italian competition entry “Waste to Biofuels” received awards. The OrganOx metra system is a new type of container in which donor livers can be kept in a natural state for up to 24 hours. This system is an improvement over the traditional cooling method currently used to preserve donor organs.

Awards

In 2012, Altran was awarded the “Green Fleet” environmental prize for environmentally friendly fleet management by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU). In 2011, 2012 and 2013 Altran was also certified as a “Top Employer” by the CRF Institute.
