ARY Gold Cup 2000/01

The ARY Gold Cup 2000/2001 was a three-nation tournament that was held from April 8th to 20th, 2001 in the United Arab Emirates in one-day cricket . In which, for international cricket 2000/01 belonging tournament took teams from New Zealand , Pakistan and Sri Lanka in part. In the final, Sri Lanka was able to prevail against Pakistan with 77 runs.

prehistory

New Zealand and Pakistan previously played a tour against each other in New Zealand , New Zealand winning the ODI series 3–2. Sri Lanka previously played a tour against England . Originally also had India provided as a participant, but after the Indian government to have a week before the association forbade teams to "irregular" venues compete, the team was withdrawn. The reasons for the government's decision were, in addition to the Pakistani-Indian conflict, the betting fraud scandal in October 1999 in the same place .

format

In a preliminary round, each team played against each other once. There were two points for a win and 1 point for a draw or no result. The first two of the group qualified for the final and played for the tournament victory.
