Antiteroristička jedinica Lučko ( Anti-Terrorist Unit Lučko), ATJ Lučko for short , is a special unit of the Croatian police stationed in Lučko near Zagreb . The unit has about 130 men (as of 2016).

The tasks of ATJ Lučko include the rescue of hostages and the fight against terrorism . It is used both preventively and operationally in particularly dangerous situations, similar to the SWAT teams of the US police .

history

The ATJ Lučko was founded on September 7, 1990 and was the first armed unit of the new freely elected Croatian government. It was the basis for the organization of the special forces of the Croatian police. Your baptism by fire was the ATJ Lučko on 1 March 1991 in the fight against Serb irregulars and the Yugoslav People's Army to the Croatian town of Pakrac .

At the outbreak of the Croatian War on March 31, 1991 the ATJ Lučko was used in the armed incident near the Plitvice Lakes . In the further course of the war she was used all over Croatia in fighting in Glina , Topusko , Petrinja , Dragotinci , Pakrac-Okučani (again), Zagreb-Pleso airport , Dubica , Delnice , Marinci , the Battle of Dubrovnik , Cavtat , Operation Maslenica , the operation Medak boiler , Daruvar , Bučje , Požega (Ivanovac) , the operation flash , the operation Storm , Petrova Gora and operation Storm-Obruč used.

During the Croatian War (1991-1995) the then 350-strong unit had a total of 52 seriously wounded and the following 14 dead : Božo Bionda, Nikola Bionda, Robert Zadro (son of Blago Zadro ), Vladimir Stojić, Davor Zbiljski, Mladen Jakovljević , Robert Krizmanić, Darko Srbić, Nenead Režić, Zdenko Bogdan, Antun Haban, Slavko Puček, Šimun Fofić and Damir Klasnić.

Known members

Seven generals of the Croatian armed forces emerged from the unit : Mladen Markač , Mirko Norac , Miljenko Filipović , Ante Roso , Stanko Sopta , Slavko Butorac and Željko Sačić .

The prominent martial artist Mirko Filipović , known as "Cro Cop", was a member of the ATJ Lučko for six years before starting his sports career.
