Topusko ( Serbian - Cyrillic Топуско ) is an association municipality ( općina ) in the Croatian Sisak-Moslavina County and the location of the famous Toplice Topusko thermal baths .
geography
The place is located about 60 kilometers south of Zagreb and 40 kilometers southwest of Sisak in the valley of the Glina , a right tributary of the Kupa , not far from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the border between the regions of Kordun and Banovina . The border crossing to Velika Kladuša is 24 kilometers away, the border itself only seven kilometers as the crow flies. The area is hilly. While Topusko itself is about 125 m, some mountains in the area in the Petrova Gora rise up to 500 m.
traffic
A little north of the village, the D6 road runs towards Karlovac or Glina . Topusko is connected to the border crossing to Bosnia by a side road.

population
At the 2011 census, the association had a total of 2,985 inhabitants; of these, in 1865 they referred to themselves as Croats (62.5%), 893 as Serbs (29.9%) and 139 as Bosniaks (4.7%). However, 92% of the population stated that their mother tongue was Croatian . Before the war the community had about twice as many inhabitants.
About 900 inhabitants live in Topusko itself, the rest in the districts.
history
In the Croatian War Topusko was in the direct combat zone and was controlled from 1991 to 1995 by the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina . The place and the spa facilities were partially badly damaged.
