The Görlitzer Turnverein 1847 e. V. (short GTV 1847) was founded in 1847, making it the oldest sports club in Görlitz . The club offers basketball , volleyball , bounce ball , gymnastics , aerobics , gymnastics and health sports as well as body styling .
history
The Görlitzer Gymnastics Club 1847 was launched on November 20, 1847 as the "Gymnastics and Rescue Club Görlitz" . It was not until fifty-six years later - in 1903 - that he expressly committed himself to gymnastics by renaming it "Alter Turnverein (ATV) Görlitz" . Even later the name "Görlitzer Turnverein 1847" was given .
The ATV belonged to the minority of clubs in the umbrella organization of the German Gymnastics Association that were decried as "modernist". In other words, they were not limited to the exercises and sports that are usually understood as gymnastics , but began early on to include other disciplines and population groups in the club's work.
The Görlitzer Turnverein 1847 e. V. also trains in the venerable, smaller gym on Kunnerwitzer Straße, behind the Görlitzer train station .
Lawn sports (ATV 1847 Görlitz)
The soccer department existed for a few years in the 1910s and 1920s .
In 1922 the Upper Lusatian Association became champions and took part in the south-east German finals . The Görlitzers were lucky in the 1922/23 season . After ATV Görlitz in Upper Lusatia only finished second in the table behind STC Görlitz , but STC Görlitz decided not to participate in the south-east German final round for unknown reasons, the ATV was still allowed to take part in this final round.
But then came the " clean divorce " ordered by the German gymnastics association . In order to be able to stay in the SOFV, the football department separated from the gymnastics club and set up as SpVgg Gelb-Weiß Görlitz .
The 1847ers also celebrated their first successes in Görlitzer handball as the first club in the city to reach the Gauliga Schlesien, which encompasses all of Silesia . Later there was also competition in this league from the military SV Cherusker Görlitz, with whom they were relegated jointly in 1938/39, as well as another Oberlausitzer club Blau-Weiß Lugknitz .
