action

Hyeong-do wears a suit and tie and works as an employee in what appears to be an ordinary company. However, this is only a façade. Hyeong-do is a successful hit man and his company accepts requests for murder. Hyeong-do's promotion is imminent. He has recruited a temporary worker. But his superior does not like this. Therefore, he should kill the temporary worker, Ra Hun. However, this one has one last wish.

Shortly afterwards, Hyeong-do brings Hun's mother a lot of money that Hun has saved. He learns from her daughter that her mother Mi-yeon used to be a singer. Before his last assignment, he told Hun that he once wanted to be a singer, to which Hun replied that it wasn't a great job and that he knew a singer.

Hyeong-do was a big fan of Mi-yeon when he was a child, but initially didn't recognize her. Hyeong-do meets with her more often. From within the company, he will soon take care of his former boss. He lost his seven-year-old son and has not appeared in the company since. When he doesn't want to come back, Hyeong-do is ordered to kill him.

Meanwhile, the police are on his trail. One recognizes him from a crime scene. When he identifies himself with his driver's license, the policeman remains skeptical, so that Mi-yeon, with whom he is currently traveling, gives the policeman Hyeong-do's business card. But this later troubles Hyeong-do. The police officers are investigating the company. Chef Kwon asks him why he gave them the business card, whereupon he only apologizes and is beaten for it.

However, with the apparent murder of his former superior, Hyeong-do is eventually promoted. However, it turns out that Hyeong-do did not kill his boss or his temporary worker, and that he also has a relationship with a woman. Hyeong-do wants to get out, but the company is putting everyone on him. He can kill two employees and flee with Mi-yeon and their two children to his friend Ban, who has successfully dropped out. However, he sees it as an opportunity to return to the company. He betrays them. But Hyeong-do can overwhelm everyone with the help of Hun, but Mi-yeon is killed in the process.

Hyeong-do wants revenge for it. He armed and went to the company building. Actually, he just wanted to kill the bosses. But before that, all employees turn against him. He can kill them and eventually the bosses too. Only Chong-tae seems to have disappeared. When Hun suddenly appears, Chong-tae also comes and shoots her. But they can just throw it out the window. The police were called because of the noise. Hyeong-do suggests how Hun can escape, while Hyeong-do faces the police alone.

reception

A Company Man was released in South Korean cinemas on October 11, 2012 and reached over 1.1 million admissions. Maggie Lee of Variety feels reminded of the Hollywood films Haywire and Looper because of the scenario . The film creates a surreal fascination in that Ji goes to work normally with his colleagues in a suit, creates reports and gives presentations, just as they do target practice.

Trivia

  • In the description of the German film exploiter Splendid, Mi-yeon is incorrectly called Su-yeon .
