Aad de Jong (1951)

Aad de Jong (born December 1, 1921 in The Hague , † August 29, 2003 in Zevenbergen ) was a Dutch football player . He played for ADO Den Haag and was used five times for the national team .

Career

De Jong became a member of ADO at the age of eight; at 16 he was in the first eleven of the Hague for the first time. In the early 1940s he was a member of the ADO family. Twice in a row, in 1942 and 1943, this team - which included left defender de Jong, among others, Gerrit Vreeken , national players Herman Choufoer (as team captain ) and André Roosenburg, and the later ADO coach Rinus Loof - became Dutch champions . For eighteen seasons he remained loyal to ADO; the association made him an honorary member. After the end of his active career, he worked as a trainer at HBS Craeyenhout and Quick Den Haag .

National team

De Jong only made his debut in the Oranje Elftal three weeks before his 29th birthday - at a time when many of his teammates such as Vreeken, Bram Appel , Theo Timmermans and Toon Bauman had already gone to France as professionals or were about to go there. The Dutch defensive line on November 12, 1950 - with de Jong, Sjef Mertens in his only international match and Jan van Schijndel - allowed goalkeeper Piet Kraak to reach behind him seven times in this game . The game in Antwerp against Belgium ended 2: 7 . A 2: 5 defeat in France was followed by a 5: 4 again against Belgium. In two more defeats, de Jong was in the Oranje cover, a few more times he was a substitute on the bench. In his last game, again in Belgium in April 1952, the future Belgian national coach Guy Thijs was his direct opponent.
