Aaja Chemnitz Larsen is the daughter of Jørgen Schmidt Chemnitz and Jette Larsen and is in a relationship with Michael Driefer, with whom she has four children. From 1998 to 2004 she studied at the University of Greenland . She then worked for the Greenland government until 2006 . She then worked for the United Nations and the Nuuk Township . From 2009 to 2012 she was director of the welfare department of the new Sermersooq and then 2015 children spokeswoman of Parliament. She has also graduated from Insead since 2011 and from the University of Nottingham since 2014 .

She ran for parliamentary elections in 2014 and won a seat in the Inatsisartut with 278 votes . In the following year she took part in the 2015 Folketing Election and achieved slightly more votes than Johan Lund Olsen , which means she moved into the Folketing together with Aleqa Hammond . Then she took leave of absence from Inatsisartut. In September 2017, Ane Hansen left the Inatsisartut to become mayor of Qeqertalik and Aaja Chemnitz Larsen took on a double mandate in her place. Because of her work in the Folketing, she did not run again in the Inatsisartut election in 2018 . She ran for the Folketing Elections in 2019 and received the highest number of votes of all candidates, thus defending her seat in the Danish parliament.
