Cook starts Taekwondo for the Scorpion Association and has been participating in international competitions since 2005. A year later he won his first medal with bronze at the Junior World Championship, and again a year later he became Junior European Champion for the first time in Baku . In the adult segment, Cook rose to the top international in 2008. He was able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where he sensationally reached the semifinals with two victories. After a narrow defeat in the semi-finals against Mauro Sarmiento, he was also defeated in the battle for bronze against Zhu Guo , so that Cook took the ungrateful fifth place in the end. Also in 2008, Cook won the Junior World Championship in Izmir . Cook celebrated his greatest sporting successes for the United Kingdom at the European Championships in Saint Petersburg in 2010 and in Manchester in 2012 , where he was European champion in the weight class up to 80 kilograms with narrow final wins.

The British Association claimed a starting place in Cook's weight class for the 2012 Olympics in 2011 . In December 2011 Cook won the Olympic test competition and was then already considered a medal candidate for the games. Nevertheless, in June 2012 the British association gave Lutalo Muhammad preference and surprisingly did not nominate Cook. Cook then sued the association's decision.

From February 2013 he took part in international competitions for the Isle of Man and won the gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Baku . At the 2015 World Championships in Chelyabinsk , where he won bronze, he started for the Republic of Moldova , of which he is also a citizen.
