Abdullah Maqdas (born March 31, 1987 in Kuwait City ) is a Kuwaiti tennis player .

Career

Maqdas already played on the junior tour, where he had small successes. In 2005 he was in the junior round of 16 at Wimbledon , in the same year he reached a combined 18th junior world rankings.

The beginnings: 2002–2010

Maqdas has been playing tournaments on the ITF Future Tour since 2002 , but without success. It was not until 2006 that he was able to win more than one match in a row for the first time when he reached the semi-finals in Jiangmen . In doubles, he also reached a semi-final for the first time in 2004 at a tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour in Tehran . In 2006 he also reached a double final in a future. Until 2008 he reached a place in the top 1000 in singles and doubles. Between 2008 and 2010 he was then no longer in the world rankings .

Since 2010

In 2010 he had a small breakthrough when he reached a final and a semi-final in two futures and thus advanced into the top 700. in doubles he made his debut on the ATP World Tour in Dubai at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships with a wildcard . There he and his partner Mahmoud-Nader Al Baloushi were clearly defeated by Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirny in two sentences. He also succeeded in winning a future in Thailand with Sebastian Rieschick . In 2012 he played again at the ATP tournament in Dubai , where he was eliminated in the first round with his compatriot Mohammad Ghareeb . In the same year he won his only future title in singles in Qatar . In addition, he reached a final and four semi-finals, two titles in doubles and another final. Thanks to these successes, he also achieved his highest placements in February 2013 with a 496th place in singles and 581st place in doubles. Until 2016 he could only win another double title but not play a single match on the Challenger Tour.

Davis Cup

Maqdas is a key player in the Kuwaiti Davis Cup team . After Mohammad Ghareeb , he played the most matches for his country. The first time he played in 2003 against the team of Oceania for his country, where he won doubles with Ghareeb. In the period that followed, Kuwait managed to move up to Continental Group II, where it was able to hold for most of the time. Overall, Maqdas has a record of 39:18.
