Abraham Mountains
Abraham Theodor Berge (born August 20, 1851 in Lyngdal , † July 10, 1936 in Tønsberg ) was a Norwegian right-wing liberal politician from Frisinnede Venstre . He was Norwegian Prime Minister from 1923 (as successor to Otto Bahr Halvorsen ) to 1924.
The teacher Berge began his political career in Lista in what is now Farsund , where he was elected mayor in 1882 . From there he went to the Norwegian parliament in 1891 , where he initially represented the Venstre party. He was minister of church and finance in various cabinets . After a ten-year break from politics, he became finance minister again and later also prime minister when the prime minister on duty Otto Bahr Halvorsen died. He resigned when a vote to lift prohibition failed.
In 1926 he was indicted in office as the only Norwegian prime minister ever. The allegations said he was withholding information related to a bank that was threatened with bankruptcy and wanted to be bailed out by the government. However, he was acquitted in 1927 along with six other ministers .
