Acanthobasidium delicatum is a type of mushroom from the family of layer mushroom relatives (Stereaceae). The fungus has very small, inconspicuous, resupinate fruiting bodies , only a few millimeters in size, thatgrowon sour grasses and reeds .

features

The small, thin and delicate, resuspended fruiting bodies cover the substrate as oval plates without a clearly separated edge. The texture is powdery and the hymenophore whitish or pale pink. The hyphae system is monomitic but only indistinctly recognizable as large quantities of rhombic crystals are embedded in the hyphae. Almost all septa have buckles . The acanthohyphidia are rounded or pear-shaped, the upper end looks like a brush and is reminiscent of the cheilocystids of some Mycena species . Also Gloeozystiden may exist, they are tortuous and difficult of the immature basidia to distinguish. The basidia are quite cylindrical to urn-shaped or ampoule-shaped and measure 25–30 × 10–11 µm. They are somewhat contracted and have spiky protrusions ( protuberances ) , especially in the middle . They carry four awl-shaped, 8–9 µm long sterigms . The dense and feinstachelig ornamented and elliptical Basidio spores measure 13-15 x 7-8 microns. They are indented on the inside and have a narrow, sloping apiculus .

Species delimitation

Acanthobasidium phragmitis , which also grows on dead reed leaves and herbs, is very similar . However, this species has larger basidiospores and no acanthohyphids.

Ecology and diffusion

The fruiting bodies grow on the dead leaves of various sour grasses such as rush edge and hanging sedge . The species has been found in Germany, France and England.

Systematics

The species was first described by EM Wakefield in 1952 as Aleurodiscus delicatus . In 1967 Parmasto placed them in the genus Acanthophysium , which is now recognized as polyphyletic , before Oberwinkler made his newly defined genus Acanthobasidium the type species due to its basidia morphology . However, he forgot a reference to the original publication of the basionym , so that the species was not validly published according to Article 33.4 of the ICBN . That was finally made up for in 1979 by Jülich.

meaning

The tiny mushroom is not an edible mushroom.
