Achim Hütten (born May 9, 1957 in Andernach ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been Lord Mayor of Andernach since 1994 .

Life and work

After graduating from the Kurfürst-Salentin-Gymnasium Andernach in 1977, he studied political science, sociology and constitutional, economic and social history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Bonn , Hütten in 1984 with the completion of the master’s degree Artium graduated. From 1985 he was the office manager of DKV Deutsche Krankenversicherung in Cologne.

Achim Hütten is chairman of the Flood Emergency Community Rhine eV, an association of municipalities, cities and citizens' initiatives from Mainz to Duisburg.

Achim Hütten is married, has a daughter and lives in Andernach.

Political career

Achim Hütten has been a member of the Andernach City Council since 1984 and has been a member of the Mayen-Koblenz district council since 1989 , including many years as chairman of the local SPD parliamentary group.

From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . During this time Achim Hütten was the domestic and local political spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group as well as managing director of the Social Democratic Community for local politics . After leaving the state parliament, Helmut Bäuerle took over .

Hütten became mayor of Andernach in 1993. In 1994 he was then the first directly elected Lord Mayor of the city of Andernach. So far, he has been confirmed in office three times, the first time in 2002. On November 22, 2009, he was re-elected for the third term of office without an opposing candidate with 90%. On November 19, 2017, he won the election for the fourth term of office and prevailed against the non-party Franz Haas with 78.2%.

On February 16, 2008 Hütten was nominated as a candidate of the SPD for the district election on June 1, 2008 in the Mayen-Koblenz district , which he lost with 32.3% to 61.9% to Alexander Saftig (CDU).
