Achiras (also: Achira ) is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Achiras is the second largest town in the canton of Samaipata in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Samaipata in the province of Florida . The village is located in the eastern Andean Mountains at an altitude of 1351  m in the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental , on the upper reaches of the Río Achira , which flows over the Río Laja to the Río Piraí and is thus directly connected to the Amazon basin .

geography

Achiras lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. Because of the sheltered valley location, the climate is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and almost 20 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is around 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 35 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110-120 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Achiras is located at a distance of 110 kilometers by road southwest of the department capital Santa Cruz and nine kilometers west of Samaipata , the central place of the district.

The 488 km long paved highway Ruta 7 runs through Samaipata , which connects the two metropolises Santa Cruz and Cochabamba . The Ruta 7 leads via La Guardia and La Angostura to Achiras and then on via Saimapata , Mairana and Comarapa to Cochabamba.

population

The population of the village has decreased over the past two decades:

year Residents source
1992 - census
2001 467 census
2013 286 census
