Acid Death is a Greek metal band from Athens , which was founded in 1989, disbanded in 2001 and has been active again since 2011. In their career the band played with groups like Kreator , The Haunted , Impaled Nazarene , Children of Bodom , Rotting Christ , Mayhem , Coroner , Onslaught , Pestilence , Sadist and Septic Flesh .

history

The band was formed in 1989. In 1991 the band started working on the EP Balance of Power . In the winter of 1992 the band went to the Praxis Studios in Athens to record the sound carrier. However, the EP was not to be published and would not be offered as a free download until 2008 . However, three songs were to be used for the 1993 EP Apathy Murders Hope . Apathy Murders Hope was released through Molon Lave Records . In 1995 a split was released with Avulsed . In 1998 the debut album Pieces of Mankind followed , which was recorded at AMP Studios in Athens, the album being re-released in 1999 via Coppro Records . The band at that time consisted of the bassist and singer Savvas Betinis, the guitarists Dennis Costopoulos and Themis Katsimichas and the drummer Kostas Tsompanos. Shortly after the album was released, Katsimichas was replaced by guitarist and keyboardist Nikos Andreadakis. The second album Random's Manifesto followed in 2000 through Black Lotus Records . The recordings for this took place in the Marathon Studios in Athens. However, due to the offensive cover, the album was removed from the German market. The band broke up the following year.

In 2008 the album Pieces of Mankind was ranked among the 40 most distinctive releases on the Greek metal scene by the Greek rock-hard magazine . In 2011 the band got back together and released the album Eidolon in June 2012 . The album was recorded at DevaSoundz Studios and SIA Recordings in Athens. In 2011 the band took part in the Finnish Halvation Festival, in 2012 the Greek Inferntac Festival and in 2013 the Greek Rockwave Festival, the Greek New Long Festival and the Slovenian Metaldays Festival. The band currently consists of singer and bassist Savvas Betinis, guitarists Dennis Kostopoulos and John Anagnostou, and drummer Kostas Alexakis.

style

In a review of Eidolon in Metal Hammer , Robert Müller stated that Acid Death were among the first bands in progressive death metal in their early days. However, there wasn't much left of it and the album only had a mixture of interchangeable Thrash and Death Metal.

thethrashmetalguide.com called Pieces of Mankind progressive Thrash Metal, with the vocals in particular reminding me of Death Metal. The music is comparable to the works of Mekong Delta , Coroner and Death . Random's Manifesto turns almost completely to progressive death metal, whereby the complex song structures are occasionally reminiscent of jazz , so that the band is comparable to Atheist , Death, Pestilence and Cynic . Balance of Power offers a mixture of Thrash and Death Metal comparable to Pestilence and Massacra .
