Adán Martín Menis (born October 19, 1943 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife , † October 10, 2010 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish politician .

Live and act

From July 4, 2003 to May 27, 2007, Adán Martín Menis was elected President of the Government of the Canary Islands , an autonomous community of Spain .

Before that he was from June 30, 1987 to July 9, 1999 President of the island government of Tenerife , the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife , and then from July 17, 1999 to July 4, 2003 Vice-President and Minister for Economy and Finance of the Canary Islands. He was also a member of the Canary Parliament from June 6, 1993 to March 3, 1996.

Adán Martín Menis was a member of both the regional Agrupación Tinerfeña de Independientes party and the Coalición Canaria (CC) party , which had 23 members from May 2005 to May 2007 during his last term in the Canarian Parliament. He turned down another candidacy for the new presidency elections in May 2007. On May 30th 2007 he officially said goodbye to politics in the Auditorio de Tenerife . He stated that he wanted to withdraw from it completely. His successor as the Canary Island President was Paulino Rivero Baute .

Adán Martín Menis was a trained engineer and married to Pilar Parejo. He died of cancer in a hospital in Barcelona and found his final resting place in the Cementerio de Santa lastia in Santa Cruz de Tenerife .
