Adam - A story about two strangers. One a little stranger than the other. is a film comedy from the director Max Mayer from 2009 .

action

Adam was left on his own for the first time at the age of 29 after the death of his father. There he meets the new neighbor, Beth, who has moved into the apartment building. Beth finds the charming and handsome Adam interesting in a certain way, and Adam is drawn to Beth too. However, Adam has Asperger's Syndrome , which is part of the autism spectrum . This makes it difficult for him to maintain social contacts. Adam also has a special interest in the universe, which is indicative of its otherness. But Beth doesn't see this syndrome as an obstacle to a life together. However, when Adam reveals Beth in a white lie, he loses control and a dispute ensues. When Beth's father, who wants to talk her out of love for Adam, is sentenced to prison, the relationship seems futile. Adam tries to persuade Beth to move with him, as he cannot live without her and he has to relocate to another city due to his new job. Beth refuses to do so. The film ends with an excerpt from his life in the new city.

Reviews

“Although it is Adam's quality mark not to problematize his protagonist's illness, it is precisely an excess of harmony that robs the film of its dynamism. [...] If Adam asks after every tactlessness with a dog's eye what he did wrong, Asperger's Syndrome is finally transfigured as a lovable quality. [...] The calculating way with which Adam uses the quirks of his protagonist to elicit delight in the audience is suspiciously close to Zemeckis' kitschy epic Forrest Gump . "

“Adam is like someone from another planet. But this little silent film by Max Meyer treats him as a natural part of our world, whereby comedy and tragedy are carefully kept in balance. Adam once took Beth to Central Park late at night to show her two raccoons - also an exotic couple: 'They don't really belong here,' he says, 'but they are here.' Adam is also here now. And Beth is there now. They can really only learn from each other. "
