Adam Blacklaw

Adam Blacklaw (born September 2, 1937 in Aberdeen , † February 28, 2010 in Barnoldswick ) was a Scottish football player . The goalkeeper has made three appearances for Scotland .

Athletic career

Blacklaw first played soccer in his school, thanks to his talent he was called up to the Scottish national school team. In an international match against the English national school team, he drew the attention of various clubs to himself and in 1954 he joined Burnley FC . After he succeeded there mainly in the junior division, he moved between the posts in 1956 after a shoulder injury by Colin McDonald in the professional team in the First Division . After the recovery of the competitor, who then played his way into the English national team and was number 1 of the "Three Lions" at the 1958 World Cup , he initially moved back into the second ranks. When the latter was seriously injured again at a charity match against an Irish national team on St. Patrick's Day , he took his chance and established himself as a regular with the "Clarets". In the season 1959/60 he contributed in 41 season games to the second championship win in the club's history. In 1962, he narrowly missed his second title win when the team led by Jimmy Adamson as team captain had to admit defeat to the London club Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the FA Cup . In addition, the club also finished the championship in second, promoted Ipswich Town had three points ahead as champions at the end of the season.

In the summer of 1963 Blacklaws achievements led to his first appointment for the Scottish selection, for which he guarded the gate in the 4-3 win over Spain . Later, Blacklaw worked briefly as a coach at FC Clitheroe , full-time he ran a newspaper kiosk and later a pub after his career .
