Adam Weisskopf (also Adam Weißkopf ; born October 3, 1533 in Neisse , Kingdom of Bohemia ; † September 10, 1605 ) was titular bishop of Nicopolis ( Nicopolitanus ) from 1576 to 1605 and auxiliary bishop in Breslau from 1577 to 1602 .

Life

Adam's parents were Georg Weißkopf and Katharina geb. Pyrn. Members of the family were in episcopal and sovereign services. Adam's older brother Stanislaus was the personal physician of the Breslau bishop Balthasar von Promnitz and his son of the same name was canon in Breslau from 1577 to 1593 . Georg, another brother of Adam, held important offices under the bishops Promnitz and Logau ; under Bishop Martin von Gerstmann he was castle captain of Ottmachau .

Adam Weisskopf studied at the University of Krakow , where he obtained a master's degree in 1563 . He was ordained a priest on March 6, 1563 in Cracow . From 1562 to 1587 he was a member of the Neißer Kollegiatstift . In 1563 he became canon at the Breslauer Dom and canon of the Breslauer Kreuzkirche . He was also pastor of St. Nicholas Outside the Walls in Breslau and from 1573 cathedral choirmaster .

After a vacancy of more than 30 years , Adam Weisskopf was on December 17, 1576 by Pope Gregory XIII. appointed titular bishop of Nicopolis ( Nicopolitanus ) and auxiliary bishop in Breslau. The episcopal ordination took place on September 8, 1577 by the Breslau bishop Martin von Gerstmann . From 1586 to 1599 he was also provost of the Augustinian Canons of Breslau , although he was not a member of the order. During his tenure, he ordained many candidates to the priesthood as priests. Numerous other acts of auxiliary bishopric have come down to us.

Because of his old age, he resigned himself to the cathedral choir and as auxiliary bishop in 1602. He died three years later. His body was buried in the Breslau Cathedral. The tumba made of cut porphyry with the life-size figure of the deceased was erected while he was still alive.
