The Adelsberg is an elevation in the border area between the Erzgebirgsvorland and the Erzgebirge east of the district of Chemnitz named after it .

geology

The flat crest forms the highest point on the north-western edge of the Erzgebirge between Zschopau and Zwönitztal . The adjoining rock is formed by gneiss and mica slate with a phyllitic slate coat .

Flora Fauna

Due to the centuries-old use of the area, the landscape is strongly influenced by people. As so often in the Ore Mountains, a large part of the forest consists of spruce trees . There are some large burrows of the protected red wood ant .

view

From the observation tower (which is no longer accessible) there is a view to the south as far as the ridge regions of the Ore Mountains. Parts of the Erzgebirge basin and the city of Chemnitz can be viewed in the west and north . You can also see the Sternmühlental and the nearby Augustusburg Castle in the east. The elevation is densely forested, which limits the view.

Tourist development

On the summit is the 20 meter high Adelsberg Tower, built in 1886 and completed in 1887, with an adjoining inn. The building stands a few meters from the corridor boundary to Chemnitz-Adelsberg, but still belongs to the Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhainer corridor. The client was the landowner Hermann Theodor Haase from Kleinolbersdorf. The tower was initially open from 1968, but is no longer open to the public. After many changes of ownership, the catering business was initially closed in 1995; After renovation, the Adelsbergturm restaurant opened in summer 2004.

The Adelsberg is a junction of various hiking trails.
