Adnan Omran

Adnan Omran ( Arabic عدنان عمران, DMG ʿAdnān ʿUmrān ; * August 9, 1934 in Damascus ) is a former Syrian diplomat and politician .

Life

Adnan Omran studied at Damascus University and at a university in Moscow. He holds a degree in international law research from Columbia University , New York. From 1957 to 1961 he practiced as a lawyer in Damascus. From 1962 to 1963 he was employed in the Syrian Foreign Ministry. From 1963 to 1966 he was employed at the UN headquarters . From 1966 to 1968 he was first-class embassy secretary in Moscow . From 1968 to 1970 he was temporarily chargé d'affaires at the Syrian embassy in Berlin-Pankow . From 1970 to 1971 he was employed with special tasks in the Foreign Ministry. From 1971 to 1972 he headed the Palestine Department in the Foreign Ministry. From 1970 to 1973 he represented the Syrian government in committees of the annual general assembly of the United Nations . From March 20, 1974 to 1980 he was Ambassador to the Court of St James’s and at the same time accredited with the government in Stockholm .

From 1980 to 1996 he represented the Syrian government in the Arab League in Tunis and Cairo . From 1996 to 1998 he was Deputy Foreign Minister. From 2000 to 2003 he was Minister of Information ( public relations ).
