Adolf Friedrich Furchau (poet)

Adolf Friedrich Furchau , also: Friedrich Furchau (born February 22, 1787 in Stralsund ; † June 20, 1868 there ) was a German Protestant pastor and poet .

Life

The son of Adolf Friedrich Furchau , who was vice-principal at the Stralsund grammar school in the Katharinenkloster , attended the Stralsund grammar school and from 1806 studied theology at the University of Göttingen (like his father) and at the University of Greifswald .

From 1814 he worked as a deacon at the Stralsund Jakobikirche and from 1823 as pastor at the Johanniskirche in his hometown. He was also a school councilor.

Furchau, who was friends with Ernst Moritz Arndt , was also active as a poet outside of his church career. His house developed into a center of intellectual life in Stralsund, as Furchau devoted himself to poetry and literature as well as the history of the Pomeranian region as well as the fine arts and technical developments.
