Adolf Kastner
Adolf Kastner (born August 23, 1889 in Pforzheim ; † July 19, 1963 in Meersburg ) was a German specialist in German studies, historian and high school teacher.
Live and act
Kastner was the son of a businessman and attended the humanistic high school in Pforzheim. He studied history, German, law and economics at the University of Heidelberg . In the First World War he took part as a volunteer and was seriously wounded in the Battle of the Somme ; In 1918 he completed his studies with a doctorate as Dr. phil. from. He then worked as a high school teacher in Offenburg , Tauberbischofsheim and Pforzheim. He also worked on the German legal dictionary and was chairman of the German Democratic Party in Pforzheim until 1933 .
The destruction of Pforzheim in World War II forced Kastner to move to southern Baden. After the war he was initially commissioned to reorganize the elementary school system in the Stockach district ; In May 1946, the city of Meersburg appointed him head of their newly established Progymnasium. Kastner opened up Meersburg as the new center of life: in 1949 he organized the 650th anniversary of the city elevation, in 1955 a commemoration ceremony for the 100th anniversary of the death of the well-known Germanist Joseph von Laßberg . The Society of Friends of the Old Meersburg, which he founded, campaigned for monument protection and managed to preserve the Meersburger Schlossmühle. Since 1950 he worked as a volunteer Meersburg city archivist, in addition in various functions in the association for the history of Lake Constance and its surroundings . Kastner received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his versatile commitment .
Adolf Kastner was married and had a daughter and a son who died in Soviet captivity.
