Adolf Joseph Friedrich Pernwerth von Bärnstein (born May 20, 1836 in Würzburg , † November 2, 1918 in Munich ) was a German railway official and student historian .

Life

Born as the son of a Bavarian officer from an old Tyrolean noble family, Pernwerth von Bärnstein studied law at the Julius Maximilians University . In 1856 he became a member of the Corps Moenania Würzburg .

After completing his training, he entered the Bavarian state service and became a railway official in 1867, from 1874 railway administrator in various parts of Bavaria, 1880 head of the main train station in Munich, 1884 general director and 1892 general director of the Royal Bavarian State Railways . In 1901 he retired and received the title of Royal Privy Councilor .

In addition to publications from the field of transport, Pernwerth von Bärnstein also wrote work on the history of students and is considered one of the founders of student history research.
