The Adolf Präg GmbH & Co. KG is a group of companies with headquarters in Kempten (Allgäu) , the nationwide in wholesale and retail trade with mineral oil operates. In addition to this core business, Präg also sells other fuels ( wood pellets , biodiesel ), electricity, natural gas, pellets, e-charging solutions and PV systems. Präg is also active in the real estate and corporate equity sectors. Präg operates three of its own large tank farms in Kempten, Augsburg and Heidenau near Dresden, which are also used by external companies, as well as around 120 petrol stations (with shops, washing facilities and some service halls) in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony. There are further sales offices in Schkeuditz (near Leipzig) and Weimar. Over 80 of these filling stations operate under the Aral brand , around 30 under the Pinoil or Pinoil own brand . PIN (a brand relaunch was carried out in 2018). Around 50 filling stations are equipped with LPG filling stations ( liquid gas ). In the end customer segment, around 40,000 customers are supplied with heating oil and diesel fuels.

history

The company was founded on December 5, 1904 by the wholesaler Adolf Präg, a native of Ulm , in Augsburg as a goods agency for kerosene and special lubricants (cylinder oils, machine oils and vaseline oils). Customers were above all the Augsburg textile industry, which was still important at the time, as well as the emerging mechanical engineering industry. In 1916 a branch was opened in Kempten, managed by Präg's future wife Anna Meisle from Augsburg (managing partner from 1946 to 1977, general partner from 1958 ). The von Präg sons from their first marriage had been working for the company since the early 1930s, but left the company in 1936. Until 1928, the company was supplied by Rhenania-Ossag Mineralölwerke AG (trading as Deutsche Shell AG since 1947, and as Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH since the end of 2003 ). Then the company Präg became a member of UNITI eV, founded in 1927 ( Association of German Independent Operating Material and Mineral Oil Importers , later Association of German Operating Material Wholesalers , then Association of German Fuel Wholesalers , today Federal Association of Medium-Sized Mineral Oil Companies ).

During the Second World War, the company's development stagnated due to the forced management of all German mineral oil companies in the Mineral Oil Distribution Working Group (AMV), managed by the Central Office for Mineralöl GmbH . Adolf Präg offered the authorized representative of the Central Office for Bavarian Swabia , Josef Deisenhofer, who had trained with Raab Karcher in Munich and built up the network of Aral petrol stations in the region, a share in his company, which he initially did refused. After Adolf Präg's death in 1946, Präg's widow Anna headed the company. In 1947 Josef Deisenhofer's brother Johann, and then in 1948 Josef Deisenhofer, joined the company as general partner.

Although the compulsory management of mineral oil products was not lifted until mid-1951, Josef Deisenhofer was able to establish first supply contacts with Deutsche Erdöl AG (DEA) as early as 1948 and contractually seal the cooperation as a brand dealer of DEA in 1950. In 1948 a new one was opened in Krumbach in addition to the existing tank farms in Kempten and Augsburg . Josef Deisenhofer convinced the DEA to set up an in-house network of filling stations in Germany. In 1951, Präg opened Germany's first DEA filling station in the Allgäu. At the end of the 1950s, Präg was already operating 120 DEA filling stations.

At the same time, heating oil was added to the product range. Due to the success, the tank farms in Kempten, Krumbach and Augsburg were enlarged and our own tank trucks were purchased. Präg soon became the market leader in the Allgäu. In the mid-1950s, the company's headquarters were relocated from Augsburg to Kempten, after the administration had been located there since the late 1930s. In 1956/57 Johann Deisenhofer resigned as general partner. In 1958, the former mint apprentice Johann Keslar joined as a new partner, shortly afterwards Brigitte Keslar also became a partner. In 1960, the son of Josef Deisenhofer and today's managing director, Gerd Deisenhofer, joined the company as a 19-year-old commercial clerk, after having already gained initial industry experience at DEA in Hamburg / Heide and its drilling company.

In 1966 the American oil company Texaco bought the Präg contract supplier DEA. Präg has already supplied 150 petrol stations in Bavarian Swabia. In 1968, Präg built its first modern tank farm for petrol, heating oil and a high-bay warehouse for over 250,000 liters of lubricants in Kempten.

In 1972, Präg opened Europe's first self-service petrol station under the new Texaco supplier brand in Lagerlechfeld near Augsburg. Because this step increased sales many times over, Präg expanded rapidly and within a very short time became the German Texaco dealer with the highest turnover. Gerd Deisenhofer, who now also became general partner, acquired the end customer business of the Augsburg company Stemmer & Biber as a new line of business in 1972, despite the high investment burden at the time .

In 1977 Präg operated 146 petrol stations and achieved a turnover of 140 million DM with 20,000 customers. A new tank farm and administration were built in Krumbach. Anna Präg died in the same year and, in a business legacy, appointed the partner Hans Keslar as the new general partner from 1978, who, however, left the following year. Since then Josef Deisenhofer, Gerd Deisenhofer and the Rudolf and Brigitte Keslar family have been shareholders. In 1980 sales rose to 180 million DM, and Präg ran 100 petrol stations, 55 of which were based on the self-service concept. Our own software company, AM-Data GmbH was founded in 1980.

In 1983, the legal form of the Präg parent company was transformed into a GmbH & Co. KG , Josef and Gerd Deisenhofer became sole managing partners. In 1984 the company moved to a new building costing DM 13 million elsewhere in the city; the previous main site was sold to the city of Kempten in 1981/82 (today the vocational school center is located there). There was also a garden center for 1.6 million DM. From 1985 to 1987 Präg built another large tank farm in Augsburg for 9 million DM.

In 1988 Josef Deisenhofer died. In the same year, the Präg supplier Deutsche Texaco was taken over by RWE AG ( RWE Dea AG ), the Texaco brand name disappeared, and the petrol stations now appeared as DEA. After the reunification of Germany, the business was expanded to some of the new federal states, for which the Präg Mineralölhandelsgesellschaft (MÖH) was founded in Leipzig and the Tankstellen-, Bau- und Betriebs GmbH (TBB) in Taucha . In 1992, Präg opened the first East German DEA filling station in Brandis near Leipzig. From 2001 onwards, MÖH and TBB operated 17 petrol stations and two holdings in motorway petrol stations ( Auerswalde and Buckautal ). 100,000 m³ have already been sold in the end consumer and lubricants business. In 1993 Elaskon Dresden GmbH , a manufacturer of lubricants for ropes, with production facilities in Dresden- Reick and Heidenau was taken over. In 1996, through the establishment of a joint venture with DEA ​​under the name DEA Elaskon, the activities of both companies in the field of specialty lubricants were combined.

In 1998 Präg built a new company headquarters and a large tank farm on the Elaskon site in Dresden-Heidenau for 20 million DM, 75% of which was leased to the Petroleum Storage Association (EBV) on a long-term basis . In 2001 the Adolf Präg Mineralölhandelsgesellschaft and the Tankstellen Bau- und Betriebsgesellschaft mbH merged to form Präg Mineralöl GmbH , based in Heidenau. At that time, Präg held 19 self-service filling stations in Saxony, as well as the two holdings in the motorway filling stations Auerswalde Nord (51%) and Buckautal (55%).

In 1999 DEA left the DEA Elaskon joint venture and at the end of 2001 a partner who had joined the company took over the 50% of the company held by Präg in full as part of a management buy-out . Since then, Präg's petrol station and tank storage business has been limited to Bavaria. In 2005 Marc Deisenhofer, the son of Gerd Deisenhofer, joined the company and became his successor.

In 2006 the Präg group started trading in wood pellets. In July 2009 the 50th LPG tap was opened at the bus company Brandner in Thannhausen . Präg has also been selling electricity and natural gas since 2011.

In 2014, Präg opened a large pellet store in Augsburg.

In 2017 Präg put its first e-charging station into operation.

In 2018, a new business division was founded that offers PV systems and e-charging solutions. In 2018, the first Pinoil petrol station was changed to pin.

In 2018, PRÄG shareholders Gerd and Marc Deisenhofer also founded the sister company PRÄG Komfortbau. It is active in the real estate market with Klaus-Rüdiger Bischoff as managing director.
