Adolf Pries

Joachim Heinrich Gottlieb Adolf Pries (born June 13, 1851 in Rostock , † May 15, 1930 in Neubrandenburg ) was a German administrative lawyer and mayor of Neubrandenburg.

Life

Adolf Pries was the eldest son and third of nine children of the Rostock lawyer and state lawyer Joachim Heinrich (Hermann) Pries (1819–1893) and his wife Helene Eggers (1824–1898), a Rostock merchant's daughter. The Rostock pastor (Ernst Heinrich) Robert Pries (1852–1928) and the building officer Friedrich Pries (1859–1937) were his brothers. The lawyer and university professor Otto (von) Wendt (1846–1911) was his brother-in-law. His grandfather Johann Friedrich Pries (1776–1832) was once a university professor in Rostock.

After attending the large city school in Rostock up to high school graduation in Easter 1870, he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , from the summer semester 1872 Rostock , Gießen and finally again from the summer semester 1874 Rostock. In Heidelberg he became a member of the Frankonia Heidelberg fraternity in 1870 . After his first professional positions in Bützow and Wismar and his doctorate as Dr. iur. he first practiced as a lawyer in Schwaan and was mayor there since 1879.

In 1887 he came to Neubrandenburg as senator and lawyer and was one of the two here from 1889 to 1923, most recently sole mayor. During his tenure in Neubrandenburg in 1918, the centuries-old tradition of having several mayor's office at the same time ended. During his term of office, the construction of the water and electricity works, the establishment of the municipal art collection , the construction of the boat harbor and the inauguration of the lyceum fall . As part of the state constitution of Mecklenburg until 1918 he was landscape deputy for the Vorderstadt Neubrandenburg at the state parliament and one of four landscape deputies in the select committee of the knight and landscape in Rostock .

From 1894, Pries was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Wilhelm and Augusta Jubilee Foundation to support the upbringing and training of destitute orphans, supervisory officer of the Jewish community in Neubrandenburg, chairman of the Neubrandenburg hostel association, member of the board of the Bethanien rescue house. He was a member of the Mecklenburg Heimatbund, in 1907 co-founder of its Neubrandenburg local group and member of the local executive committee. From 1883 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology and from 1891 in the Association of Friends of Natural History in Mecklenburg . He remained unmarried and childless. An unmarried sister ran his household. He found his final resting place in the old cemetery in Rostock.

A foundation created by him in 1912, whose share capital was destroyed by the global economic crisis, and the Bürgermeister-Pries-Weg in Neubrandenburg commemorate Adolf Pries. One there s. The currently attached memorial plaque with the name and dates of life of Pries is missing.
