Adolf Schmedding

Adolf Ernst Schmedding (born May 3, 1856 in Münster ; † June 12, 1937 ibid) was a German lawyer , administrative officer and politician ( center ).

Life

Adolf Schmedding was born the son of a businessman. After graduating from high school Paulinum in Münster in 1874 , he studied law at the universities of Leipzig , Tübingen , Munich , Bonn and Greifswald . He passed the first state examination in law in 1877 and then worked as a court trainee in Rheine , Münster and Hamm . In 1882 he passed the second state examination in law.

In the same year he joined the administration of the Prussian State Railways as a government assessor . His path led him via the railway offices in Wesel , Münster and Dessau to the railway directorate in Cologne and from there to the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin . In 1890 he changed to the service of the Province of Westphalia . He was regional councilor in the provincial administration until October 1919 and then president of the regional tax office in Münster until 1924.

Schmedding was a member of the Center Party and city councilor in Münster. From November 20, 1903 to November 15, 1918 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . After the First World War he was 1919-1921 member of the Constituent Prussian State Assembly and 1921-1928 member of the Prussian Landtag . In the parliaments he mainly dealt with financial, transport and administrative matters.

In addition to his professional and political activities, Schmedding was General Secretary of the Westphalian Provincial Association for Art and Science, Chairman of the Catholic Caritas Association and, in March 1896, a founding member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . From 1914 to 1920 he was also a committee member of the commission. In addition, he occasionally wrote articles for magazines for youth and poor welfare.

Honors

Schmedding held the title of Privy Councilor. In addition, he was awarded the honorary doctorate of Dr. phil. hc and Dr. med. hc awarded.

In Münster, Schmeddingstrasse , the north-south axis of the Sentruper Höhe district , is named after Adolf Schmedding.
