Adolfo Mexiac (born August 7, 1927 in Coto de la Esperanza , Michoacán - † October 13, 2019 ) was a Mexican artist .

From 1944 to 1946 he studied painting at the Escuela Nacional de Artes de Morelia (National School of the Arts of Morelia ). This was followed by studies from 1947 to 1951 at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP) in Mexico City, which emerged from the Academia de San Carlos . Mexiac also studied at the La Esmeralda Art Academy and at the Escuela de Artes del Libro (School of Book Art). His teachers were José Chavez Morado , Leopoldo Méndez and Pablo O'Higgins . From 1950 to 1960 Mexiac was in the Taller de Grafica Popular (Workshop of Folk Graphic Artists, TGP). He was also a professor of graphics and drawing at ENAP. From 1953 to 1954 he stayed in Chiapas , where he made drawings for the Instituto Nacional Indigenista (National Population Institute, INI). His first solo exhibition also took place in Chiapas. Mexiac created drawings for various newspapers and school books. From 1958 to 1978 he took part in many biennials, including in Yugoslavia , Chile , Cuba and Italy . In 1957, 1958 and 1969 he won first prize in the graphic salon of Mexico, in 1959 first prize at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Vienna and in 1964 first prize at the Casa de las Américas in Cuba. His most famous work is the mural in the Palacio Legislativo in Mexico City, completed in 1981 . It has a size of 35 × 6 meters and represents the constitutional history of Mexico. From 1986 to 1987 wall paintings were created in the University of Colima . Mexiac's works have been presented in almost 30 solo exhibitions around the world. Mexiac had been a member of the Academia de Artes since 1976 . He lived in Mexico City and Cuernavaca .
