Adolph von Pressentin

Adolph Albert Bernhard Hans Wilhelm von Pressentin (born July 14, 1845 in Schwerin ; † December 23, 1916 there ) was a German politician, civil servant and lawyer. From 1896 to 1914 he was a state councilor and head of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Ministry of Finance .

Adolph von Pressentin was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Bernhard von Pressentin (1815–1869) and Dorothea (Doris), born von Bülow (1823–1904).

Career

In 1864 he obtained his Abitur at the Fridericianum Schwerin . He then studied law and camera studies in Heidelberg, Göttingen and from 1867 at the University of Rostock . In 1865 he became a member of the Corps Vandalia Heidelberg . In 1868 he completed his studies and was in the following year in Rostock, the lawyer exam . Then he entered the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg service. He initially worked as an official auditor at the Schwerin Office. From 1873 he worked there as an official assessor , having passed the judge's examination on November 23, 1872. In 1875 he was appointed administrator and served as a district official and head of the central office of the grand ducal budget administration. From 1881 to 1891 he was land rent master and first director of the grand ducal rent factory . From 1887 he was also a member of the state insurance office of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

In 1883 Adolph von Pressentin was awarded the Knight's Cross of the House Order of the Wendish Crown . Among other things, his work on the board of the state trade and industrial exhibition of the same year was recognized. From 1889 until his death he was also involved in the Association for Mecklenburg History , of which he was vice-president from 1905.

From March 1891 Adolph von Pressentin worked as a ministerial advisor and lecturer in the Ministry of the Interior. As the conductor of the Grand Ducal Railway Commissariat, he was significantly involved in the purchase of the Lloyd Railway and the Mecklenburg Southern Railway in 1894 , which were incorporated into the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Friedrich-Franz Railway . For his services in this function he was appointed secret ministerial advisor in 1895.

On October 1, 1896, Adolph von Pressentin was appointed State Councilor and Board Member of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Ministry of Finance with the Domains and Forests department. From October 1904, he was also the first representative of the Land agent in the Federal Council . As finance minister he was also the chairman of the court theater and until 1914 sovereign commissioner and chairman of the debt repayment commission. During Adolph von Pressentin's term of office, among other things, the promotion of settlement in the country and the building of churches, schools and administrative offices, state support for the extraction of local mineral resources ( Conow potash and rock salt mine ) and the conversion of the outdated factor tax system to income - and wealth tax system .

Adolph von Pressentin was involved in the long-standing debates about a new state constitution . He repeatedly advocated a constitutional constitution in Mecklenburg and tried to bring about an agreement along these lines. After Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV's draft constitution was rejected by a clear majority in an extraordinary state parliament in Schwerin, Adolph von Pressentin submitted his resignation in autumn 1913, as did the President of the State Ministry Carl von Bassewitz-Levetzow . At the request of the Grand Duke, however, he initially remained in office until he resigned as Minister on March 31, 1914 at his own request. At the same time as his release, he was appointed to the Real Secret Council . In 1916 he died of a heart attack at the age of 71.

family

Adolph von Pressentin had been with Klara (1853–1932), b. Fledgling, married. She was the daughter of a Secret Cabinet Councilor. The marriage had five children.
