Adoration is a coming-of-age film and thriller by Fabrice Du Welz , which premiered at the Locarno Festival in August 2019 and was released in Belgian cinemas on January 15, 2020.

12-year-old Paul lives alone with his mother, who works as a cleaning lady in a private clinic in the middle of a remote forest. In this clinic, Dr. Loisel rich people with severe mental illness. When he's not helping his mother with her work, Paul goes into the forest to watch the birds, which is his great passion.

One day, Gloria, a schizophrenic teenager in about 15, comes to the clinic. Paul falls in love with her immediately. A young love and a deep friendship develop between the two. Believing Gloria is in danger, and contrary to the adults' warnings, Paul helps her escape the clinic.

The director was Fabrice Du Welz , who also wrote the script together with Romain Protat and Vincent Tavier .

The film received a production grant of EUR 240,000 from Eurimages and a further grant from Wallimage.

The shooting took place in the summer of 2018 in Belgium, in Froyennes, the province of Hainaut and in Küchelscheid, on an abandoned campsite and on the nearby Scharzbachsee.

In August 2019, Adoration was presented for the first time at the Locarno Festival . In the same month it was shown at the Sarajevo Film Festival . At the end of September and beginning of October 2019 it was shown at the Hamburg Film Festival . In early October 2019 he was also presented at the London Film Festival . The film was released in Belgian cinemas on January 15, 2020.
