Adrian is a small town in the so-called Texas Panhandle , the northernmost part of the US state Texas . He is not far from the western border to New Mexico on the former Route 66 in Oldham County .
history
Adrian's founding dates back to 1900 after the Rock Island Railroad announced that it would set up a future stop and loading station here. The first settler was Calvin G. Aten, a former Texas ranger . Not far from the planned railway station, he built a simple shelter for his family. The city was named after another settler, a certain Adrian Cullen. The railway station was completed in 1909 and a year later Adrian had a post office, several shops and his own newspaper, the Adrian Eagle . A volunteer fire brigade was established in the 1940s. In 1950 about 50 people lived in Adrian. The construction of Route 66 made Adrian a point of contact for travelers. In 1969 the place was bypassed by an interstate and cut off like many other places from through traffic. According to the United States Census 2010 , Adrian had 110 residents. Adrian forms the geographical center of the old route, it is exactly 1,139 miles (1,833 km) to the start and end of Mother Road.
The Midpoint Café on Route 66 in Adrian was also featured in the Oscar- nominated Pixar animated film Cars by John Lasseter (2006). It formed the inspiration for the Flo's V-8 Café in the film.
