Adrian Staehelin

Adrian Staehelin (born May 17, 1931 , † June 14, 2016 ) was a Swiss judge and legal scholar .

Life

Staehelin studied at the Universities of Basel and Geneva. In 1955 he received his doctorate from the University of Basel. In 1967 he completed his habilitation with Hans Hinderling. From 1974 to 2001 he worked at the University of Basel as a part-time professor for civil law, civil procedural law and legal history.

Between 1968 and 1982 he was president of the civil court and from 1982 to 1997 he was president of the appellate court of the canton of Basel-Stadt . After his retirement until his death, he worked as a consultant at the law firm Kellerhals Carrard in Basel.

He was co-editor of the Basel Commentary on the Federal Debt Collection and Bankruptcy Act .

In 2007 the University of Zurich awarded Staehelin an honorary doctorate.
