Adriana da Cunha Calcanhotto (born October 3, 1965 in Porto Alegre ) is a Brazilian singer . In her songs she mixes different stylistic elements from bossa, samba, pop, electro and jazz. During live performances, she often only accompanies this very own music with an acoustic guitar in the singer-songwriter style. In Brazil, Portugal and parts of Latin America it is very well known.

Life

As the daughter of a jazz drummer and a dancer, her life was artistically shaped from an early age. At the age of 6 she began to play the guitar and later also to sing.

Musically she was influenced by the MPB ( Música Popular Brasileira ), literarily by Brazilian modernism. She was influenced u. a. by Mário de Andrade and Tarsila do Amaral .

Her artistic career began as a singer in pubs and as a theater actress, later she appeared all over Brazil as a singer-songwriter. She caught the eye with her first record and won the Prêmio Sharp in 1991 as a female discovery.

She writes and produces most of the pieces herself, but has also interpreted songs by Dorival Caymmi and Caetano Veloso .
