Adrien Meisch
Adrien Meisch (born April 8, 1930 in Luxembourg City ; died May 12, 2020 in Vallauris , southern France ) was a Luxembourg diplomat and musician.
At the beginning of his professional career he was an attaché at the permanent representations of Luxembourg in New York , Brussels , the OECD and NATO . In Luxembourg he was a. a. Director of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Positions as a diplomat
From 1971 to 1998 Meisch was Luxembourg's diplomat in the following permanent representations:
- 1971 - 1974 Moscow - responsible for the Soviet Union , Finland and Poland
- 1974 - 1983 Washington : responsible for the USA, Canada and Mexico
- 1983 - 1991 Bonn
- 1991-1995 Berlin
- 1995 - 1998 Moscow - responsible for the Russian Federation
Adrien Meisch has achieved a lot for Luxembourg in diplomacy thanks to his cosmopolitan character and cultural openness. These include his meetings in Moscow with musicians and intellectuals during the Cold War . In Germany and the USA, too, he has brought celebrities from politics and business together with artists at the embassy . Because of his social acceptance, he was able to interest his interlocutors in Luxembourg.
Examples of his successful work as a mediator in the background are the awarding of the Aachen Charlemagne Prize for the Luxembourg people (1986), the establishment of branches of German banks in Luxembourg and the building of the Philamonie at MUDAM , to name just a few.
