Mougel started in Schilpario for the first time in the cross-country alpine cup in February 2005 and finished 83rd in the sprint. He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in December 2008 in La Clusaz , which he finished in 69th place in the 30 km mass start race. At the Winter Universiade 2009 in Yabuli , he achieved 21st place in the skiathlon and 14th place over 10 km freestyle. In March 2010 he achieved his first podium in the Alpine Cup with third place in the 10 km mass start race in La Féclaz . In the 2011/12 season he came with four top ten placements, including third place in Arvieux over 10 km freestyle to tenth place in the overall ranking of the Alpine Cup. In the following season he came in the top ten seven times in the Alpine Cup. He finished third in the 3.75 km freestyle in Rogla and, like last year, came tenth in the overall standings. In February 2013 he finished second at the Transjurassienne over 76 km freestyle and won at La Foulée Blanche . In the following month he got his first and so far only World Cup points in the intermediate sprint at the 50 km mass start race in Oslo , which he finished in 52nd place. In the summer of 2013 he won the Rollerski World Cup in Pontarlier in the mountain run over 5 km. He has been competing in the Worldloppet Cup since the 2014/15 season . He finished fifth in the 2014/15 and 2016/17 season and sixth place in the overall ranking in the 2015/16 season . In January 2015 he took third place and in January 2018 first place in the Dolomitenlauf .
