Adrienne Ekila Liyonda
Adrienne Ekila Liyonda (born October 16, 1948 in Kinshasa , † June 22, 2006 in Uccle / Ukkel , Belgium ) was a diplomat and politician from Zaire .
biography
After attending primary school and the Lycée Sainte Marie-Thérèse in Kinshasa, she studied law at the Université catholique de Louvain and graduated in 1974 with a licentiate with distinction.
After returning to Zaire, she became legal advisor for the news and press agency Agence Zaïre Presse (AZAP). At the same time she was a member of the board of directors of the general company for stone and ore works (GECAMINES) and of the permanent commission for the reform of the law of Zaire.
Ekila Liyonda began her political career in 1976 when she joined President Mobutu Sese Seko's office . In 1981 she was appointed Secretary General of the Mouvement Populaire de la Révolution , the country's nationalist unity party .
In 1983 she was appointed Minister for Social Affairs and Women in his government by President Mobutu and held this office until 1985. She was then ambassador to Belgium between 1985 and 1987 and was accredited as such in the Netherlands and Luxembourg at the same time .
After her return to Zaire in 1987 she succeeded Kengo Wa Dondo as Foreign Minister in the Mobutu government and, after a government reshuffle, took over the post of Minister for Information and Press until 1989 in 1988. In 1990 she was again Minister for Information and Press for a period.
