Adrienne Shelly (* 24. June 1966 as Adrienne Levine in Queens , New York ; † 1. November 2006 ibid) was an American actress , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Shelly was born Adrienne Levine in Queens in 1966 . She grew up on Long Island and later studied at Boston University . Her career began with roles in the indie films Suspected Love and Trust - Blind Trust by Hal Hartley .

In the 1990s she starred in several films and wrote several scripts at the same time. She also starred in four television series (one episode each): Homicide , Alone Against the Future , Oz - Hell Behind Bars, and Law & Order .

On November 1, 2006, her husband found her dead in her New York office. Her murderer, a construction worker and illegal immigrant from Ecuador , faked suicide by hanging, but left traces in the apartment. He confessed to the murder a few days later, shortly after his arrest. According to his first testimony, he had killed her out of anger after an argument broke out because she complained about the noise of his work. He later confessed that she hadn't complained about construction noise, but that it was a robbery.
