ADRA Germany

The German branch ADRA Germany was founded in December 1986 under the name: ADRA-Adventistische Entwicklungs- und Katastrophenhilfe e. V. founded by the regional bodies of the Free Church of the Seventh-day Adventists and entered in the register of associations on January 17, 1987. The seat of the association is Darmstadt. The ADRA Germany office has been in Weiterstadt since 1991 . The first chairman of the association was Joachim Hildebrandt. The business was carried out by the executive chairman Erich Lischek. The treasurer was Peter Kunze. In 2000 the membership statutes were changed. The members (corporations) have resigned. Members can now become heads of institutions and state bodies. In 2006 the name was changed to ADRA Deutschland e. V. changed. (Reason: the website ADRA Germany e.V. had been assigned until then.) Furthermore, the statutes were changed again. Erich Lischek was appointed full-time managing director. ADRA is recognized in Germany as non-profit and charitable. The organization has the DZI donation seal . Erich Lischek was in charge of the management from 1986 to the end of 2012. Christian Molke has been the new managing director since his retirement. ADRA Germany e. Memberships and campaigns

ADRA was a member of the European association for food aid EuronAid (The Hague, NL). Erich Lischek was Deputy Chairman of EuronAid until it closed in 2007. Since 1989 Lischek has been the managing director of ADRA in the Committee de Liasson (LICO) Brussels, which represents the interests of German and European NGOs vis-à-vis the EU. This facility was largely funded by the EU. The NGOs wanted greater independence. Therefore, new associations were founded on the European level: VOICE - ADRA Germany is one of the founding members. VOICE thus became a partner of ECHO, the humanitarian aid agency at EU level. And CONCORD, the association of non-governmental organizations in the field of development cooperation, was set up. The LICO was closed for this purpose. CONCORD included a. VENRO and EuronAid. Therefore the representative of ADRA Germany, E. Lischek, was elected as one of the delegates to CONCORD. The organization is one of the founding members of the Association of Non- Governmental Organizations (VENRO). The organization is one of the founding members of Aktion Deutschland Hilft . The campaign Together for Africa, which was founded on the private initiative of some managing directors of NGOs, u. a. by M. Roßbach (CARE), H. Röhrig (ASB) and E. Lischek (ADRA), has been supported by ADRA Germany since 2005. ADRA is also a member of INTEGRA (German network to overcome female genital mutilation). Since 2000, ADRA has carried out the nationwide “Children help children!” Campaign every year. The campaign was initially set up in the Darmstadt area and then in Hesse. At Christmas 2011, 39,262 gift packages were sent to Albania, Serbia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Kosovo. ADRA Germany set up a foundation in 2002: ADRA Foundation for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid.

ADRAshop

In 2006 ADRA opened a shop in Weiterstadt in which donated, well-preserved second-hand goods are offered. A cheap source of supply should be created for people with a small financial budget and socially and ecologically sustainable goals should be pursued. These goals are achieved through the reuse of used clothing and the use of the profits from the sale of the volunteer project, which benefit the worldwide project work of the ADRA network. Another ADRAshop was opened in Bergisch Gladbach in 2010. Further openings were made in Lüdenscheid in 2014 and in Stendal in 2015. As a result, ADRA gGmbH was founded in 2016, which took over ADRAshops from ADRA Deutschland eV. In the same year further shop openings followed in Köthen and Nuremberg. Approx. 130 people volunteer in the ADRAshops. In 2017 ADRA gGmbH started a Germany-wide collection of used clothing with textile containers. Since 2018, donated items have also been offered for sale via online platforms. In 2019 ADRA gGmbH developed a new "ADRAshop-Light concept". This is especially intended for small action groups and should be implemented in smaller cities. As part of this concept, another ADRAshop was opened in Diepholz in May 2019.
