Egidio Colonna

Egidio Colonna OSB (originally Carlo Colonna ; * 1607 in Rome ; † October 18, 1686 ibid) was an Italian clergyman and Latin ( titular ) patriarch of Jerusalem . His religious name is also given as Aegidius .

Life

Egidio Colonna came from the extensive aristocratic family of Colonna and was the third of the eleven children of Filippo I Colonna, sixth Duke and Prince of Paliano, and his wife Lucrezia Tomacelli. Among his brothers was the later Cardinal Girolamo Colonna (1604–1666), the younger brother Giovanni Battista Colonna († 1637) was also Patriarch of Jerusalem.

On December 4, 1638 Egidio Colonna made his profession and became a Benedictine. He was appointed titular archbishop of Amasea on December 19, 1643 , and was consecrated as bishop on January 3, 1644 by his brother Girolamo Cardinal Colonna, Archbishop of Bologna . On January 19, 1671, he was promoted to Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Egidio Colonna died in Rome and was buried in the Benedictine church of San Callisto there.
