Aeonium undulatum is a species of the genus Aeonium in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

Aeonium undulatum grows as a perennial , or not from the base slightly branched, often monokarper shrub and reaches stature heights of up to 2.5 meters. The smooth, bare, more or less upright shoots have a diameter of 10 to 30 millimeters. Their rosettes , flattened in the middle, reach a diameter of 10 to 30 centimeters. The obscure-lanceolate-spatulate or oblong spatulate, dark green, almost bare leaves are 6 to 18 inches long, 3 to 5 inches wide and 0.15 to 0.3 inches thick. They are pointed towards the tip and have a little pointed tip. The base is wedge-shaped. The edge of the leaf is covered with curved eyelashes that are 0.5 to 2 millimeters long. The leaves are often reddish along the edge and near the top variegat .

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence has a length of 12 to 50 centimeters and a width of 12 to 40 centimeters. The inflorescence stalk is 5 to 20 inches long. The nine to twelve-fold flowers are on a 1 to 8 millimeter long, bare flower stalk . Their sepals are bare. The yellow, lanceolate, truncated petals are 6 to 8 millimeters long and 1.2 to 1.5 millimeters wide. The stamens are bare.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 72.

Systematics and distribution

Aeonium undulatum is distributed in Gran Canaria at altitudes of 300 to 1500 meters.

The first description by Philip Barker Webb and Sabin Berthelot was published in 1841. A nomenclature synonym is Sempervivum undulatum (Webb & Berthel.) Webb ex Christ (1888).
