The Antofagasta Airport ( IATA : ANF , ICAO : SCFA ) (actually: Aeropuerto Andrés Sabella) is a Chilean airport a few kilometers north of the city of Antofagasta in northern Chile.

It serves as a traffic and air cargo airport. The Chilean Air Force Fuerza Aérea de Chile has its 5th Air Brigade stationed here. Its runway is 2599 m long and 50 m wide.

The airfield has facilities for international police, immigration and customs services to handle international flights.

history

On September 10, 1945 , the Dirección General de Aeronáutica de Chile decided to build the airport. The existing Aeródromo Cerro Moreno should be modernized. At the same time, the airports in Arica , Los Cerrillos, Temuco , Puerto Montt , Puerto Aysén and Punta Arenas were added to the program. The construction cost a total of 120,000,000 Chilean pesos .

On September 14, 2000, an airport concession for 10 years was awarded to Aeropuerto Cerro Moreno Sociedad Concesionaria SA , as a result of which the major renovation of the airport began, a total of around 7000 m² of new space was planned.
