African Integrated High Speed Railway Network
The African Integrated High Speed Railway Network (AIHSRN; in German about Integrated African High Speed Railway Network ) is a continental rail network project in Africa that is in the planning phase . It is planned by the African Union as part of its Agenda 2063 .
The rail network is to be composed by special expansion projects in each of the member states of the AU by the year 2063 US dollars . Most of the routes are planned to run parallel to the Trans-African Highways .
. New construction projects are planned over at least 12,000 kilometers in length, which extend over six main corridors. In addition, 17,200 kilometers of railway lines are to be modernized. The total cost is put at 43 billionMost recently, the acceleration of the project was announced at an expert workshop in Windhoek ( Namibia ) in early March 2020 .
