description

Agave neonelsonii grows from an elongated onion with several linear leaves , the edges of which are finely sawn. The "onion skins", d. H. the remains of the dead leaves are thin. The leaves on the shaft are greatly reduced.

The upright bare, "eared" inflorescence reaches a height of about 40 centimeters and bears two to five paired, sitting flowers . The ovary is 9 to 16 (rarely up to 19) millimeters long. The white, approximately 50 millimeter long perigone is bent downwards near the middle and very slender at the bottom. Their tips are short, the tips rounded. The free part of the stamens attached near the mouth of the perigon tube is 3 millimeters. The anthers are 2 millimeters in size, the scars protrude from the perigone tube.

Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .

Systematics and distribution

Agave neonelsonii is common in the Mexican state of Durango . It is only known from two collections.

The first description as Polianthes nelsonii by Joseph Nelson Rose was published in 1903. Joachim Thiede and Urs Eggli placed the species in the genus Agave in 1999 . They had to choose a new name because the species Agave nelsonii Trel was already there . (1912) existed.

The species belongs to the subgenus Manfreda and is assigned to the Polianthes group there. It is not well known.
