Agave pubescens is a species of plant from the genus agaves ( Agave ) in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet pubescens comes from Latin , means 'finely hairy' and refers to the hairy leaves of the species.

description

Agave pubescens forms cylindrical rhizomes 1.6 to 1.7 centimeters in length. Their roots are semi-flesh. The three to four (in cultivation up to nine), lanceolate, leathery leaves, which are bent back and spread out, are slightly runny and slightly wavy. Its point is pointed and has a short point. The dark brown spotted, densely downy-haired leaf blade is 18 to 28 inches long and 2.1 to 3.2 inches wide. It is green on the top and lighter on the underside. The narrow leaf margins have a hyaline band. They are entire and rolled back. The remnants of the leaf base are 4.5 to 9.5 inches long.

The "eared" inflorescence reaches a height of 63 to 184 centimeters. The elongated flower-bearing part bears ten to 19 (almost) sessile, spread-out horizontal flowers . The ellipsoid ovary is 7 to 12 millimeters long. The tepals are green. Your narrow funnel-shaped flower tube is almost straight. It has a length of 13 to 22 millimeters and is 4 millimeters wide in the middle. The strongly rolled back tips are 9 to 13 millimeters long. The stylus is initially curved downwards and is straight when fully grown. It protrudes over the flower tube by 23 to 45 millimeters. The club-shaped scars are triangular. The flowering time is August.

The elongated fruits are about 2 inches long and 1.2 inches wide. Nothing is known about the seeds .

Systematics and distribution

Agave pubescens is common in the Mexican states of Morelos , Oaxaca and Chiapas on rocky slopes in mountainous areas at altitudes of 365 to 1830 meters.

The first description by Eduard August von Regel and Karl Eduard Ortgies was published in 1874.

Nomenclatory synonyms are Agave brachystachys var. Pubescens (Regel & Ortgies) A.Terracc. (1885) and Manfreda pubescens (Regel & Ortgies) Verh.-Will. (1975, nom. Invalid ICBN -Article 29.1).

The species belongs to the subgenus Manfreda and is assigned to the Manfreda group there.
